Overview
NEXRAD Analyst Pro is a native Apple-platform weather radar application for Mac, iPhone, and Apple Watch that processes publicly available weather radar data. Your preferences, favorite radar sites, session history, and settings are stored locally on your device and may optionally sync across your devices via iCloud. No user account is required to use the app.
Data We Do Not Collect
NEXRAD Analyst Pro does not collect personal information, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or tracking data. We do not operate user-tracking systems, sell data, or collect payment information. All purchases are processed through the App Store using Apple's payment infrastructure.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- Favorite radar sites and recent session history
- User preferences (default site, display layout, overlay settings, storm motion configuration)
- Cached radar data files (managed automatically, up to 500 MB)
- Subscription and purchase state (managed by StoreKit)
- On-device machine learning model data and classifications
iCloud Sync
NEXRAD Analyst Pro uses Apple CloudKit to sync favorite radar sites and user preferences across your devices signed in to the same Apple ID. This data is stored in your private iCloud container and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. No data from your iCloud container is accessible to us. You can disable iCloud sync for the app in System Settings.
Location Data
NEXRAD Analyst Pro may request one-time access to your device's location during initial setup to automatically select the nearest radar site. This location data is used solely on-device for distance calculation and is not stored, transmitted, or shared. You can deny the location request and manually select a radar site instead. The app also uses publicly available radar site coordinates from the NWS for map display and range/bearing calculations.
Network Requests
NEXRAD Analyst Pro connects to the following public services to retrieve weather data:
- NOAA / NWS (api.weather.gov) — Weather observations, NWS warnings, and METAR station data
- AWS S3 (noaa-nexrad-level2-s3.amazonaws.com) — NEXRAD Level II radar archive data
- University of Wyoming (weather.uwyo.edu) — Upper-air radiosonde sounding data
- Blitzortung.org — Real-time lightning strike data (Storm Chaser Pack)
- NOAA NOMADS (nomads.ncep.noaa.gov) — Numerical weather prediction model data (Storm Chaser Pack)
These requests include a standard User-Agent header identifying the application. No personal information, device identifiers, or tracking data is included in any network request.
Apple Platform Services
NEXRAD Analyst Pro uses the following Apple platform services, each governed by Apple's Privacy Policy:
- WeatherKit — Surface weather conditions and forecasts for radar site locations
- CloudKit — Sync of favorite sites and preferences across your iCloud-connected devices
- StoreKit — Subscription and in-app purchase management
- CoreSpotlight — On-device search indexing for radar sites on supported platforms
- CoreML — On-device storm cell classification (all processing happens locally)
- Apple Foundation Models — On-device AI weather analysis on supported releases, with local rule-based fallback when unavailable
- CoreLocation — One-time device location for nearest-site detection during onboarding
Notifications
NEXRAD Analyst Pro may request permission to send local notifications for severe weather alerts detected from NWS data. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and are not sent through any external push notification service. You can manage notification preferences in System Settings.
TestFlight
If you install NEXRAD Analyst Pro through TestFlight, Apple may collect crash logs, diagnostics, and beta feedback in accordance with Apple's TestFlight and App Store privacy practices.
Children's Privacy
NEXRAD Analyst Pro does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not require account creation and does not collect any personal data.
