CivicVault Camera Privacy Policy

Overview

CivicVault Camera is designed to preserve recordings created by the user. The app does not sell personal data, does not track users across apps or websites, and does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Data the app handles

The app may handle videos, audio, recording metadata, optional location metadata, authentication state, vault diagnostics, and user-selected exports. Camera, microphone, location, Face ID, and iCloud access are used only when authorized by the user or required for the selected app feature.

Local storage

Completed vault recordings are stored in the app's local container. Vault segments are encrypted before storage using Apple-provided cryptographic frameworks. Some temporary files may be created during recording, playback, or export and are cleaned up by the app workflow.

iCloud backup

When iCloud backup is enabled and available, encrypted vault files and metadata are saved to the user's private CloudKit database. These records are not stored in public CloudKit databases and do not appear as browseable files in iCloud Drive.

Location

If the user grants location permission, the app may attach available location metadata to recordings. If permission is denied or a location is unavailable, recordings can still be created without location metadata.

Sharing and exports

The user can create authenticated evidence ZIP exports for sharing through system share destinations such as AirDrop, Messages, email, or Files. These exports are intentionally unencrypted so recipients can open them. Once shared outside the app, the destination service's privacy practices apply.

Deletion

Authenticated deletion removes local vault recordings and attempts to delete matching private CloudKit records. Deleting the app removes local app-container data from the device. CloudKit records may remain until deleted through the app or by the user's iCloud account controls.

Children

CivicVault Camera is not directed to children.
